SUFFERING WITH ALLERGIES?? Foods to Include, Avoid, and Supplements for Natural Allergy Relief

Picture

Foods to Include, Avoid, and Supplements for Natural Allergy Relief!

Spring’s beauty can be tough for allergy sufferers. Natural treatments may be as or more effective than medications, without side effects, such as fatigue and more serious ones like Alzheimer's Disease.
Pollen from grass, trees, flowers, and weeds triggers allergies, while histamine-rich foods can worsen symptoms, especially with mast cell issues.
Underlying Causes of Allergies
Conditions like asthma, stress, nasal issues, illness, pregnancy, and food allergies can increase allergy risk by weakening the immune system. A strong immune system helps fight allergies, while trauma, stress, or lack of sleep can make symptoms worse.
Foods to increase:
  • Vitamin C and beta-carotene in berries, dark greens, and fruits may help relieve hay fever symptoms with antihistamine and anti-inflammatory effects.
  • Omega-3-rich foods like oily fish, flaxseed oil, nuts, and seeds help fight allergy symptoms with their anti-inflammatory properties. *Check for nut allergies first, as they can be high in histamines. e.g. walnuts
  • Ginger and peppermint can also have an antihistamine effect.
  • Garlic, onions, kale, and broccoli are high in quercetin, an anti-inflammatory that reduces allergy symptoms and boosts immune function. *Also found in blue-green algae, spirulina, chlorella, and kelp.
  • Bromelain in pineapple has anti-inflammatory boosting properties.  .
  • Bone broth, probiotic-rich foods
  • Grass-fed beef, wild caught fish, free-range poultry (growth hormone/antibiotic free)
  • Hot and spicy foods, fresh fruits and veggies
Foods to avoid:
  • Wheat, cow dairy (contains A1 casein - inflammatory), soy
  • Alcohol, caffeine/chocolate (histamine liberators)
  • Peanuts, Sunflower seeds
  • Sugar, artificial sweeteners, processed foods
  • Melons, bananas, cucumbers, echinacea, chamomile and bottled citrus juice, dried fruits (high in histamines and molds from ragweed family.
  • If you have a ragweed allergy, avoid melons, bananas, cucumbers, sunflower seeds, echinacea, and chamomile. They can trigger reactions. Limiting sensitive foods helps reduce strain on your immune system for better function.
THESE 2 SUPPLEMENTS THAT MAKE A HUGE DIFFERENCE

Why Akkermansia Outshines Other Probiotics

Picture

Seven weeks ago, I made the switch to Akkermansia as my probiotic. I’ll admit, I was hesitant to stop taking the one I’d been using for years, worried it might negatively impact my gut health. However, I’m thrilled to say that the change has made a noticeable improvement, and I only wish I had discovered it sooner—especially when my digestion was a constant struggle.

In addition to the positive changes, Akkermansia is also more affordable than traditional probiotics, making it a great option for both my health and my wallet.
Picture

WHAT IS AKKERMANSIA:

Akkermansia muciniphilia is a type of bacteria that lives in the mucus layer of the gut, especially the colon. It is one of the most common and abundant bacteria in the human gut microbiome. It can break down mucin, a sugary protein that forms the mucus layer. Akkermansia is considered a "friendly" bacterium that can help manage cholesterol levels and benefit greatly in overall health.

AMAZING FACTS & BENEFITS OF AKKERMANSIA:
  • A promising next-generation probiotic due to its natural presence in the gut mucosa, ability to degrade mucus, and its capacity to improve the intestinal barrier function. (heal up Leaky Gut)
  • Many people are low in Akkermansia or have no detectable levels at all!
  • It lives in the intestinal mucus layer an is a unique microbe as it uses the mucin (a major component of mucus) as the sole source of carbon and nitrogen for energy.
  • It turns mucin into something incredibly beneficial for gut health- short-chain fatty acids, such as butyrate, which can be used as food by other friendly bacteria in the body.
  • These short-chain fatty acids regulate appetite, increase insulin sensitivity, decrease inflammation in the gut and improve gut barrier integrity.  (prevents leaky gut/inflammation)
  • It's been inversely associated with obesity, diabetes, inflammation and metabolic disorders.
WHAT AKKERMANSIA DOES:
  • Most importantly, it improves gut barrier integrity but tightening the junctions.  Meaning, it heals the gut by healing Leaky Gut.
  • Increases butyrate (feeds good bacteria)
  • Enhancement of metabolic health (weight loss).
  • Reduces inflammation.  Inflammation comes from Leaky Gut.
  • Improves glucose tolerance
  • Reduces endotoxemia (endotoxins/bad bacteria in the blood that leads to systemic inflammation).
  • Modulation of the immune system.
  • Modulation of the Endocannabinoid System. (cell-signaling system that helps regulate your body functions, including sleep and mood, appetite, among others).
  • Anticancer immunotherapy such as anti-PD-1.
WHAT AKKERMANSIA IS USED FOR:
  • Obesity
  • Type 2 Diabetes
  • Metabolic syndrome
  • Dysbiosis
  • Atherosclerosis
  • Crohn's Disease
  • Ulcerative Colitis
  • Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease/Alcoholic Liver Disease

Implementing some simple practices throughout the holidays will help  keep you healthy and feeling well.

Picture

#1 Get enough sleep.
This is MOST IMPORTANT ! Try to get 8 hours sleep in and get to bed between 10 and 11:00 pm. This will allow your adrenals to regenerate and hormones to balance.  It will help you to avoid over eating. Your Leptin hormone will kick in to say when you've had enough, and shuts the Ghrelin hormone off, so you don't continue to feel hungry and overeat.
#2 Drink plenty of water.  Drink 8-10 cups of water/day.  If you drink 8 ounces of water 15 mins before a meal, it will make you feel full quicker and also helps you produce more HCI (Hydrochloric Acid) so you digest your food better, and feel satiated.  Good for bowel health too, which quite often suffers throughout the holidays.  Drinking enough water will also help detox your body, and helps get nutrients to the cells.
#3 Start your meal, snack, or treat with a protein first.  This will help prevent insulin from spiking and then dropping, leaving you feeling tired and hungry again.  A few almonds or one or two bites of any protein is all it takes to keep your insulin balanced, and prevents over-eating.
#4  Don't skip meals. This will only set you up to BINGE EAT!  Eat 3 well balanced meals spaced out 5-6 hours.  Make sure to get enough protein, healthy fats (walnuts, pumpkin seeds, cold-pressed organic flax and olive oils, avocados) and try veggie carbs (squash, sweet potato, rutabaga, parsnips) instead of grains, to avoid bloating.  Eat your fruit at the end.  Protein turns the hunger signal off, and fats keep you full longer.  Vegetables and fruits are full of fiber. They make you feel full, and are great for blood sugar control because of their high fiber content.
#5 Limit Sugar. It's ADDICTING...and will make you want more and more.  As well, it takes 1 tsp of processed sugar to lower your immune system for 8 hours, and leaves you feeling tired and susceptible to catching viruses.  *If you do have sugar, always have it at the end of a meal.
#6 Bake your own treats instead of buying them & use healthier ingredient options. Bake with monk fruit/erythritol or stevia sweeteners instead of sugar, and grain free almond flour/butter recipes instead of wheat.
SOME HEALTHY TREAT IDEAS -  80% or higher plain dark chocolate instead of processed chocolates *Camino chocolate doesn't have lead and cadmium, like many other brands have.  Try Cassava grain free chips, and create beautiful fruit and veggie plates with guacamole.
#7 Manage Stress. Avoid planning too many get-togethers. Take time to rest and enjoy doing things you don't normally have time to do. This helps adrenals heal and promotes healthy cortisol levels, which control your hunger, and inflammation.
#8 Get moving!!! Do what you love.  Walk, snowshoe, ski, skate, short exercise videos, dance to carols:) This helps to rev the metabolism and balance hormones.
#9 Get daylight!  Try to get outside earlier in the day to help increase serotonin levels.  This gives energy and is the happy hormone.  It converts to melatonin to help you get into deep restful healing sleep.
10# BE GRATEFUL.  Thank God for what you have. We all have lots to be thankful for and a grateful heart sets your mind and heart on all God has done for you.
A BONUS TIP.. TAKE DIGESTIVE ENZYMES & A GOOD PROBIOTIC. This will help to digest those heavier meals, and prevent bloating and discomfort.  The probiotic also helps with digestion, but also keeps the good gut flora in check, which helps keep your immune system strong.

DID YOU KNOW...when you overeat your insulin spikes, estrogen rises then plummets, causing hot flashes, insomnia, inflammation and weight gain too! Make sure to get enough protein to turn off the hunger signal off, healthy fats to keep you full longer, and eat a smaller amount of carbohydrate to protein ratio.

75% off Health & Ancestry Genetic Testing Kits (Needed for Genetic Analysis)

BEST HOLIDAY OFFER!
Offer applies for every two kits - limit 4 kits
Reg $299/kit
NOW $149 for "2 kits"
Picture
Interested in Genetic Analysis? You'll need GENETIC TESTING 1st with 23andMe to get your raw DNA!

  1. A kit is mailed to you within a week or so.
  2. You do a saliva sample and mail it back to them in the box provided.
  3.  Results come in between 3-4 weeks.  You will have access to your Raw DNA which is needed to for me to be able to run a Genetic "Analysis" Report.

WHAT DOES GENETIC "ANALYSIS" TELL YOU?
It tells you what genes are turned on or off.  It will give you complete details on:
  • Metabolism: Is it fast or slow? Are you prone to food seeking behavior, due to high levels of Ghrelin (hunger) Hormone? Is your Leptin (Satiety) Hormone kicking in to say you are full?  Do you have the FTO Gene (Fatso Gene)?
  • Protein: How much you need.
  • Fat: If saturated fats turn your Ghrelin (hunger hormone) on & how much you can eat without doing that.
  • Carbohydrates: Are they causing inflammation or blood sugar issues.
  • Dairy: Are you lactose intolerant or not.
  • Serotonin: Do you make enough and how quickly you clear it out.
  • Dopamine: Do you make enough and how quickly you clear it out.
  • Short & Long Term Stress:  All about your stress hormones and how your body responds to stressful events with potential of switching a particular gene on or off.
  • Cardiovascular:  If you have fast or slow twitch muscles or both and what type of exercise is best according to your genetics.  If you are more inclined to form cholesterol or not and if you're prone to heart disease.
  • Resistance Training:  If you're made for light or heavy weight lifting and if you have increased subcutaneous weight gain when performing exercises with heavier weights.
  • General Section on Immune Health:  What genes are turned on or off in their adverse position increasing the rate of aging, lowered immune system, making you prone to cancer, neurological conditions, arthritis, preventing cell regeneration, shortening your life.
  • Inflammation:  If your inflammatory genes are turned on, then other genes can get switch on such as cancer genes, arthritic, stress hormones (high cortisol), hunger hormones, neurological, and genes that lower immune health, among many others.
  • Phase 1 & 2 Liver Pathways: Rate of methylation.  Are they too slow or fast.  Usually they are and they need to be in the middle.  This has the ability to switch genes into their adverse position.
  • Vitamins & Minerals: It lets you know which ones are safe for you to take dependent on your methylation rate.  i.e. If you under methylate you will need a methylated B12.  If you're a hyper methylator like I am you can cause insomnia and switch genes into their adverse position if you take methylated B12 or any type of B Complex.
  • Estrogen: Tells you if you have a higher production of cytochrome 17A1 enzymes with faster conversion of pregnenolone into DHEA, ultimately increasing your production of estrogen, which could cause hormonal  issues and cancers.
  • Testosterone:  If you have an increased production of the enzyme 5 alpha-reductase leading to a higher conversion rate of the less active form into the more potent form dihydrotestosterone.  This can cause hormonal cancers and unwanted symptoms!
  • Sleep:  If you have a gene clock disorder (sleep disorder) In my case, I learned that every time I got into stage 4 sleep, my body would wake me, causing inflammation and illness.  Many have this!
  • Thyroid: If you body converts T4 into T3 or not, which you need for your thyroid to work normally.  If not, it slows causing hypothyroidism.
  • Longevity:  If you have lower levels of SIRT6 accelerating many of the processes involved in aging and slowing the repair of damaged tissue.  Low levels of this gene are associated with increased frailty and the progression of several chronic disease.  Sirt6 helps to slow many of the mechanisms involved in aging from inflammation and DNA repair to glucose metabolism and Autophagy.
***At the end of the genetic analysis report if gives you a list of all the genes tested and if you have a normal allele or variant allele, or both!
The best part about the Genetic Analysis Report: It tells you what you need to do, eat, take in order to switch these genes back on or off into their correct position. That's Epigenetics!

REMEMBER...You need to have genetic testing first with the 23andMe kit to get access to your raw DNA.  It can then be uploaded to me so that I can run the Genetic Analysis Report.

TO VIEW A SAMPLE OF A GENETIC REPORT click  link below or go to the GENETIC ANALYSIS tab at the top

Do you feel lethargic most days and get overwhelmed by daily tasks? ADRENAL FATIGUE/INSUFFICIENCY - What It Is, symptoms, causes and treatments

Adrenal Glands and Their Function?
Your adrenal glands are endocrine glands located on top of your kidneys that you cannot live without. They produce many important hormones, including cortisol, aldosterone and adrenaline. The adrenal hormones help regulate several bodily functions including metabolism, blood pressure, your body's response to stress, and sex hormones.

IF YOU HAVE THESE SYMPTOMS, YOUR ADRENAL GLANDS HAVE BECOME FATIGUED:
  1.  Lethargy and increased effort to perform daily tasks
  2. Lack of energy in the mornings (difficulty getting up) and low energy in the afternoon between 3-5 pm
  3. Need coffee or stimulants to get going in the morning
  4. Hypoglycemia, and cravings for salty and fatty foods, as well as high protein foods. You will feel better suddenly for a brief period after a meal.
  5. Reduced libido
  6. Low body temperature
  7. Decreased ability to handle stress
  8. Nervousness
  9. Alternating diarrhea and constipation/digestive issues (bloating, pain)
  10. Insomnia
Joint pain and body aches are also common symptoms.

The fourth stage is called Adrenal Insufficiency, also know as Addison's Disease. The symptoms usually develop gradually and may vary from one individual to another. The common symptoms include:
  • Extreme tiredness/weak muscles
  • Reduced appetite/weight loss
  • Darkening of the skin (hyperpigmentation)
  • Reduced heart rate or low blood pressure
  • Light-headedness and fainting
  • Salt craving
  • Low blood sugar (hypoglycemia)
  • Lower blood pressure
  • Nausea or vomiting, diarrhea/abdominal pain
  • Increased muscle or joint pains
  • Irritability, depression
  • Body hair loss or sexual dysfunction in women

In some cases, injury or illness can cause a serious emergency condition called Addisonian crisis. It is characterized by:
  • Pain in the lower back, abdomen or legs
  • Severe vomiting and diarrhea that causes dehydration
  • Low blood pressure
  • Low blood sugar
  • Confusion, fear, or restlessness
  • Loss of consciousness
  • High potassium levels in the blood (hyperkalemia)
  • Low sodium levels in the blood (hyponatremia)

The different stressors that can lead to or worsen the progression of Adrenal Fatigue include such things as:
  • Eating an unhealthy diet
  • Exposure to toxins/using products that contain chemicals
  • Overconsumption of sugar & alcohol
  • Regular use of certain medications, especially antibiotics, and Prednisone.
  • The presence of a chronic illness
  • Recurring infections/Immune System Disorders
  • Psychological stress
  • Not getting enough sleep.  8 hours is what our bodies need.
  • Hashimoto's or Grave's Disease (Autoimmune Thyroid Disease)
  • Mast Cell Activation Syndrome

WHAT CAN BE DONE
Treatments for Adrenal Fatigue & Adrenal Insufficiency:
  • Supportive diet/Vitamins to help with rebuilding the adrenals
  • Stress management (breathing techniques, time management, massage, acupuncture, healthy relationships, prayer)
  • Improved sleep hygiene and supplements like magnesium and melatonin to help get you into deeper REM sleep for healing the adrenals.  You will need lots of REST! *Adrenals rebuild between 8pm and 12pm.  If you get to bed after 11:00 there isn't much time for them to rebuild.  Bed between 10-10:30 PM is ideal. Up between 7-8 AM.
  • Low impact exercises or short periods of HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training).  Do not overdo!  It can burn you out further.
  • Get sunshine in the morning or buy a Happy Lamp.  Use it for at least 30 mins every morning. (12 inches from your face)
  • Black Currant Buds - they help with balancing cortisol levels or increasing cortisol when your body isn't able to produce it on it's own.
  • Adrenal Glandular:  Porcine adrenal capsules to build the adrenals up.
  • Cortisol Meds (like Cortef - bioidentical cortisol) are sometimes needed for a short period.
  • Find a health practitioner to help support you in your health journey.

For more information or to BOOK A CONSULT to help with your adrenal health,  go to FORMS to submit a request!
