Interested in Genetic Analysis? You'll need GENETIC TESTING 1st with 23andMe to get your raw DNA!

  1. A kit is mailed to you within a week or so.
  2. You do a saliva sample and mail it back to them in the box provided.
  3.  Results come in between 3-4 weeks.  You will have access to your Raw DNA which is needed to for me to be able to run a Genetic "Analysis" Report.

WHAT DOES GENETIC "ANALYSIS" TELL YOU?
It tells you what genes are turned on or off.  It will give you complete details on:
  • Metabolism: Is it fast or slow? Are you prone to food seeking behavior, due to high levels of Ghrelin (hunger) Hormone? Is your Leptin (Satiety) Hormone kicking in to say you are full?  Do you have the FTO Gene (Fatso Gene)?
  • Protein: How much you need.
  • Fat: If saturated fats turn your Ghrelin (hunger hormone) on & how much you can eat without doing that.
  • Carbohydrates: Are they causing inflammation or blood sugar issues.
  • Dairy: Are you lactose intolerant or not.
  • Serotonin: Do you make enough and how quickly you clear it out.
  • Dopamine: Do you make enough and how quickly you clear it out.
  • Short & Long Term Stress:  All about your stress hormones and how your body responds to stressful events with potential of switching a particular gene on or off.
  • Cardiovascular:  If you have fast or slow twitch muscles or both and what type of exercise is best according to your genetics.  If you are more inclined to form cholesterol or not and if you're prone to heart disease.
  • Resistance Training:  If you're made for light or heavy weight lifting and if you have increased subcutaneous weight gain when performing exercises with heavier weights.
  • General Section on Immune Health:  What genes are turned on or off in their adverse position increasing the rate of aging, lowered immune system, making you prone to cancer, neurological conditions, arthritis, preventing cell regeneration, shortening your life.
  • Inflammation:  If your inflammatory genes are turned on, then other genes can get switch on such as cancer genes, arthritic, stress hormones (high cortisol), hunger hormones, neurological, and genes that lower immune health, among many others.
  • Phase 1 & 2 Liver Pathways: Rate of methylation.  Are they too slow or fast.  Usually they are and they need to be in the middle.  This has the ability to switch genes into their adverse position.
  • Vitamins & Minerals: It lets you know which ones are safe for you to take dependent on your methylation rate.  i.e. If you under methylate you will need a methylated B12.  If you're a hyper methylator like I am you can cause insomnia and switch genes into their adverse position if you take methylated B12 or any type of B Complex.
  • Estrogen: Tells you if you have a higher production of cytochrome 17A1 enzymes with faster conversion of pregnenolone into DHEA, ultimately increasing your production of estrogen, which could cause hormonal  issues and cancers.
  • Testosterone:  If you have an increased production of the enzyme 5 alpha-reductase leading to a higher conversion rate of the less active form into the more potent form dihydrotestosterone.  This can cause hormonal cancers and unwanted symptoms!
  • Sleep:  If you have a gene clock disorder (sleep disorder) In my case, I learned that every time I got into stage 4 sleep, my body would wake me, causing inflammation and illness.  Many have this!
  • Thyroid: If you body converts T4 into T3 or not, which you need for your thyroid to work normally.  If not, it slows causing hypothyroidism.
  • Longevity:  If you have lower levels of SIRT6 accelerating many of the processes involved in aging and slowing the repair of damaged tissue.  Low levels of this gene are associated with increased frailty and the progression of several chronic disease.  Sirt6 helps to slow many of the mechanisms involved in aging from inflammation and DNA repair to glucose metabolism and Autophagy.
***At the end of the genetic analysis report if gives you a list of all the genes tested and if you have a normal allele or variant allele, or both!
The best part about the Genetic Analysis Report: It tells you what you need to do, eat, take in order to switch these genes back on or off into their correct position. That's Epigenetics!

REMEMBER...You need to have genetic testing first with the 23andMe kit to get access to your raw DNA.  It can then be uploaded to me so that I can run the Genetic Analysis Report.

Do you feel lethargic most days and get overwhelmed by daily tasks? ADRENAL FATIGUE/INSUFFICIENCY - What It Is, symptoms, causes and treatments

Adrenal Glands and Their Function?
Your adrenal glands are endocrine glands located on top of your kidneys that you cannot live without. They produce many important hormones, including cortisol, aldosterone and adrenaline. The adrenal hormones help regulate several bodily functions including metabolism, blood pressure, your body's response to stress, and sex hormones.

IF YOU HAVE THESE SYMPTOMS, YOUR ADRENAL GLANDS HAVE BECOME FATIGUED:
  1.  Lethargy and increased effort to perform daily tasks
  2. Lack of energy in the mornings (difficulty getting up) and low energy in the afternoon between 3-5 pm
  3. Need coffee or stimulants to get going in the morning
  4. Hypoglycemia, and cravings for salty and fatty foods, as well as high protein foods. You will feel better suddenly for a brief period after a meal.
  5. Reduced libido
  6. Low body temperature
  7. Decreased ability to handle stress
  8. Nervousness
  9. Alternating diarrhea and constipation/digestive issues (bloating, pain)
  10. Insomnia
Joint pain and body aches are also common symptoms.

The fourth stage is called Adrenal Insufficiency, also know as Addison's Disease. The symptoms usually develop gradually and may vary from one individual to another. The common symptoms include:
  • Extreme tiredness/weak muscles
  • Reduced appetite/weight loss
  • Darkening of the skin (hyperpigmentation)
  • Reduced heart rate or low blood pressure
  • Light-headedness and fainting
  • Salt craving
  • Low blood sugar (hypoglycemia)
  • Lower blood pressure
  • Nausea or vomiting, diarrhea/abdominal pain
  • Increased muscle or joint pains
  • Irritability, depression
  • Body hair loss or sexual dysfunction in women

In some cases, injury or illness can cause a serious emergency condition called Addisonian crisis. It is characterized by:
  • Pain in the lower back, abdomen or legs
  • Severe vomiting and diarrhea that causes dehydration
  • Low blood pressure
  • Low blood sugar
  • Confusion, fear, or restlessness
  • Loss of consciousness
  • High potassium levels in the blood (hyperkalemia)
  • Low sodium levels in the blood (hyponatremia)

The different stressors that can lead to or worsen the progression of Adrenal Fatigue include such things as:
  • Eating an unhealthy diet
  • Exposure to toxins/using products that contain chemicals
  • Overconsumption of sugar & alcohol
  • Regular use of certain medications, especially antibiotics, and Prednisone.
  • The presence of a chronic illness
  • Recurring infections/Immune System Disorders
  • Psychological stress
  • Not getting enough sleep.  8 hours is what our bodies need.
  • Hashimoto's or Grave's Disease (Autoimmune Thyroid Disease)
  • Mast Cell Activation Syndrome

WHAT CAN BE DONE
Treatments for Adrenal Fatigue & Adrenal Insufficiency:
  • Supportive diet/Vitamins to help with rebuilding the adrenals
  • Stress management (breathing techniques, time management, massage, acupuncture, healthy relationships, prayer)
  • Improved sleep hygiene and supplements like magnesium and melatonin to help get you into deeper REM sleep for healing the adrenals.  You will need lots of REST! *Adrenals rebuild between 8pm and 12pm.  If you get to bed after 11:00 there isn't much time for them to rebuild.  Bed between 10-10:30 PM is ideal. Up between 7-8 AM.
  • Low impact exercises or short periods of HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training).  Do not overdo!  It can burn you out further.
  • Get sunshine in the morning or buy a Happy Lamp.  Use it for at least 30 mins every morning. (12 inches from your face)
  • Black Currant Buds - they help with balancing cortisol levels or increasing cortisol when your body isn't able to produce it on it's own.
  • Adrenal Glandular:  Porcine adrenal capsules to build the adrenals up.
  • Cortisol Meds (like Cortef - bioidentical cortisol) are sometimes needed for a short period.
  • Find a health practitioner to help support you in your health journey.
